Zojila Pass and surrounding high-altitude areas received fresh snowfall on May 21, 2026 stunning, rare and disruptive.
Zojila Pass, Sonamarg, Drass, Minimarg, Gurez Valley and Tulail Valley in Bandipora received fresh snowfall in May, while Srinagar experienced thunderstorms.
Srinagar–Leh Highway (NH-1) was closed at Zojila due to snowfall, while the Bandipora–Gurez road was temporarily halted at Razdhan Top.
This is due to Western Disturbances, cold winds from Central Asia affecting Kashmir. As a result, the plains receive rainfall while higher reaches experience snowfall.
